Frequently Asked Questions
What types of programs does the Division of Personnel offer?
The Division of Personnel offers Supervisory and Management training programs as well as career growth and development seminars. Please refer to our Course Catalog for a complete listing of all courses.
Who should attend?
Supervisors, Managers, and Executives in Missouri State Government may attend, as well as those who may be interested or considering a career in supervision and management.
How do I enroll for a training class?
After you inform your supervisor and receive permission to attend a Division of Personnel training class, you can enroll in several different ways:
- Access our on-line enrollment
- Contact (573) 751-4514 for enrollment assistance
Employees who enroll for training courses using these methods generally participate in an open enrollment session. Open enrollment allows supervisors and managers from different state agencies to attend a specific class together. New skills are learned while meeting and working together with people from other agencies who often experience similar challenges. Different views and perspectives are shared that enhance the learning experience and provide new insight in solving mutual issues and concerns.
Where is the training located?
Unless otherwise specified within your confirmation letter or training announcements, training classes are typically held at the following locations:
Leadership and Interpersonal Development Programs
Harry S Truman Office Building Division of Personnel Room 430 - Training Room
301 West High Street
Jefferson City, Missouri 65102
Driving directions and parking information for classes at the Truman State Office Building can be found on the parking map.
Information Technology and Computer Skills Training
1738 East Elm Street
Jefferson City, Missouri 65102
For driving direction to our East Elm location, please go to http://training.oa.mo.gov/directions.htm.
Will you offer the class specifically for our agency?
We welcome the chance to bring any of our programs to your agency, or mutually agreed upon location. We provide agency specific classes, meaning that everyone in the class is from the same agency. This can typically be done when at least eighteen people from the same agency have enrolled in the class, or when an agency training coordinator requests it. In addition to learning new skills, participants in these classes have the chance to be part of a valuable team building experience, and address specific agency issues in a closed setting.
Call us at (573) 751-4514 to discuss this possibility.
How do I know if I am enrolled in the class?
Participants enrolled in a class will receive an email confirmation from the Training and Development. If you do not receive a confirmation, please check with your supervisor or agency training coordinator before coming to the training session. You may also call Training and Development at (573) 751-4514 to check your enrollment. If we are unable to enroll you in a class, you will automatically be placed in the next available class and be informed of the change to confirm your availability to attend.
Where can I find driving directions and parking information for programs offered by the Center?
Where can I find information regarding road conditions during inclement weather?
Information regarding weather-related road conditions, work zones, flooding and incidents on major routes is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week at http://traveler.modot.org/map.
What hotels are located in the area?
You are responsible for your own hotel reservations. Two hotels are within walking distance to the Truman Building. Capital Plaza Hotel is located directly across the street from the Truman Building, and Hotel Deville is located across Highway 50. Additional hotels only a few miles away from the Truman Building are located throughout Jefferson City. What do I need to bring to training?
Lots of enthusiasm to learn! (A notepad, pen or pencil would be good too.) Check your confirmation to see if there is any pre-work material that you need to complete prior to class.
Can I cancel my enrollment for a class?
Confirmed class participants will be billed unless cancellations are received ten (10) working days prior to the course date. To cancel an enrollment, call (573) 751-4514. Substitutions are allowed if you cannot attend.
What is the fee to attend Division of Personnel training?
The cost for each class varies with the training provided. Please refer to our Course Catalog for class selection and costs. Costs are billed back to your agency after you attend.
Does the Division of Personnel keep a record of my training?
A record is kept for each participant attending any Division of Personnel sponsored training. That record can be requested by contacting the Training and Development Unit at (573) 751-4514. A record of training provided for you by your own agency should be requested through your agency's personnel office.
What if I am not a supervisor or manager? May I still attend?
Ask your supervisor. Each individual agency makes that determination. Please confer with your agency personnel office to determine your status. Upon approval, you may attend the class. A completed, and approved, enrollment application must be on file for you to attend the class or seminar.
